Ok here’s the thing Gun powder recipe is nothing that you have thought. It is a unique dressing and condiments recipe which is extremely popular in all over South India, popularly known as Gun powder or dry dal chutney or Molaga podi.
Since India has a good ratio of people who are vegetarian, this dish will be your quick comfort food for you. You can make it at home and very easily and can be stored for months as well.
So must be thinking, why is it called gun powder?
It’s because this powder is made of dal mix and the color of the powder resembles the color of actual gun powder. It can uplift the flavor of any dish when sprinkled as a dressing. So, check out the recipe below.
Ingredients needed
Oil: 2 tablespoon
Whole red chilly: 30 g
Curry leaves: 3 teaspoon
Chana dal: 2 tablespoon
Hing: 1 pinch
Tamarind
Jaggery
Urad dal: 1 tablespoon
Roasted chana dal: 1 tablespoon
Sesame seeds: 1 tablespoon
Recipe
1. Heat the pan
2. Roast the dals (Urad and Chana) together with 2 teaspoons of oil, sauté it till it turns golden brown.
3. Now add the whole red chillies, curry leaves and roast for two minutes.
4. Next, add hing powder, sesame seeds, tamarind, jaggery and salt.
5. When done, put all the ingredients together in a grinding jar and grind all coarsely.
Now you can put the mixture in an airtight container and use it with idlis, rice and dosas. It can be stored and used for two to three months.
