One of Bollywood’s finest actresses, Rekha was a director’s delight. Seeing her shine on the silver screen was a nothing less than a treat for sore eyes. She started her filmi career in 1966 as a child artist and since then, there has been no looking back for her. At the age of 13, she had to quit her schooling and join acting unwillingly. She did not have any personal aspiration in this direction. But Rekha, as she likes to remember herself, never spoke her own mind. She never revealed her true desires to anyone. She was a child who wanted to enjoy time with her friends in school and have ice creams. But she was forced to work in the entertainment industry and she never complained.
While many actors these days are passionate about acting and their love for movies, Rekha took the longest time to fall in love with her longest relationship. Gracing the talk show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal in 2004, Rekha revealed how she always considered movies as a mere job for the longest time. Something that she didn’t like doing. The actress, known for movies like Umrao Jaan, Silsila, Ghar and many others was never passionate or even serious about her roles in the same. It wasn’t until Khoon Bhari Maang that she realised the importance of being an actor and what the profession means to her. It was only when she went on stage to receive her award for Khoon Bhari Maang, that she started respecting her career and enjoying it at the same time. 22 years is quite a long time to fall in love with one’s career, right?
The absence of a father figure in her life made Rekha what she was in her early days as an actress. She would often feel conscious in the company of males. She was rumoured to be married to yesteryear actor Vinod Mehra but she vehemently declined the same on the talk show. He was always a well-wisher for her and nothing else.
