Almost eight months have gone by in 2017, Bollywood is yet to produce content-rich films. It has been a disappointing year so far as audience rejected the films even starred by big stars. The most-anticipated films like Jab Harry Met Sejal and Tubelight failed to create a magic at the box-office as was expected before the movie releases. And there’s no doubt to say that the script written in these major films was poor, thus, failed to live up to expectations.
Here is a list of seven movies that turned out be disappointing for the movie-going audience.
1. OK Jaanu
One of the first releases of 2017, Shaad Ali’s OK Jaanu, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shradda Kapoor, failed to create magic at the box-office. The film is a remake of O Kadal Kanmani. OK Jaanu, portraying a young couple in a relationship tried to highlight the emotional side of a relationship with the idea of marriage and lifelong commitment but lacks the vigour of the original. The film has the music of A.R Rahman but it also couldn’t do justice to the film.
2. Sarkar 3
Ram Gopal Varma- directed Sarkar 3 starring Amitabh Bachchan turned out to be a big flop. According to reviews, Sarkar is indeed a bad film. From Amitabh Bachchan to Manoj Bajpayee to Rohini Hattangadi to Ronit Roy, amazing actors as lead roles, yet the film failed to impress the audience.
3. Tubelight
Kabir Khan’s Tubelight starring Salman Khan is possibly the worst performance in Salman Khan’s film career. The film is a remake of 2015 American release called Little Boy, but Tubelight received huge criticism from the film critics because of Salman’s poor acting. Though the film joined the Rs 100 crore-club in few weeks after its release, the storyline failed to create a huge impact on the audience.
4. Raabta
Sushant Singh Rajput, who played biopic of MS Dhoni in MS Dhoni The Untold Story, was a big hit at the box-office but the audience rejected him with Kriti Sanon-starrer romance Raabta. The film based on the theme of reincarnation, proved to be a bad film, with bad reviews and a poor outcome at the box office. However, Raabta songs were the only saving graces but that doesn’t seem enough to do justice to the film.
5. Half Girlfriend
Half Girlfriend based on author Chetan Bhagat's novel of the same name is considered as one of the worst Bollywood films of 2017. Starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead, Half Girlfriend has been accused of misogynistic overtones. Directed by Mohit Suri, the film has a clichéd love story of a boy and a girl from entirely different backgrounds. Horrible acting of Arjun Kapoor’s exaggerated Bihari accent became a butt of jokes on Twitter. However, the film managed to collect Rs 90 crore earning at the box-office.
6. Munna Micheal
Movie-going audience also rejected Munna Micheal starring Tiger Shroff despite his bold dance and action skills. The film plot looked like 1980 kind of story and failed to set the box-office on fire. Munna Micheal’s dismal performance will have an impact on Tiger’s career. Despite the presence of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the film failed to live up to the audience expectations.
7. Jab Harry Met Sejal
Imtiaz Ali's highly-anticipated romantic comedy, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, also failed to do well on the box-office. The film received a wave of criticism for the poor content and grabbed headlines when one of the twitter users tagged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj saying ‘rescue me.’ Because of Shah Rukh Khan, the film was riding on high expectations but audiences gave him a cold shoulder.
