On 16th December, 2012 Nirbhaya case happened, a 23 year old woman was raped was raped while returning home with her friend in a bus by 6 people. The incident which took place that night made the people all over the country think that how someone can be so brutal. After the incident public protests were staged all over India and people were seen protesting near Jantar Mantar and Raisina Hills wearing black dresses and carrying candles. After the incident, Central and State government announced several steps to ensure safety of women. Since then people are waiting for the final verdict and today Supreme Court finally upheld the death penalty for the four verdicts for the gang rape and murder of Nirbhaya.
According to TOI report Apex court said, "The Nirbhaya rape-cum-murder case is rarest of rare case and we are compelled to give extreme punishment to ensure justice". "The investigation done by Delhi Police was fair and impartial and the probe has passed the test of fairness and reliability." the SC said.
The court stated that the crime committed was rarest of the rare nature and the accused had no right to live on earth after committing such a heinous act.
